Being young, female, and entrepreneurial is a great life choice. Love it! However, like being employed, it also comes with its challenges. Hello- taxes, health insurance, hiring, marketing, budgeting, etc. Phew! Its important to know the right people and have the support there when you need it. My favorite support comes from my husband. Support in the way of a second income, someone who is there to cheer me on, listen to my rants, and ignore the fact that I have the laptop in bed past 10:00. So… how do you single ladies do it? We want to know.
I married young (like 20s years young) and went into business with my parents two years after marrying Mr. Donogh. We discussed me going into business and he was behind me on it 100%. His parents owned their own business and he understood the pros and cons of where I would be headed and was cool with it. I couldn’t imagine doing what I do without having him around.
Most of the YFE’ers I’ve connected with are in a similar situation as myself. However, I know there are a few of you out there who are young, female, entrepreneurial… and single! We want to hear your perspective on this whole growing a business thing that we are doing. What are your challenges? How is being single a major bonus? Do you have tips or suggestions for other single YFE’ers? - Financial stability: does knowing you don’t have that second income to fall back on stress you out or push you harder?
- Dating: do you have time to date? – when you actually do date, are the guys intimidated or think you are silly? – how do you meet people?
- Additional expenses: yes, you can be insured by your parents until 26 now, but what happens if that isn’t even possible, or if you are over 26? How do you manage health care costs, etc.?
- Health: do you make the time to cook yourself healthy meals for one? do you eat out a lot?
Etc. etc. etc. How do you do it all?! People talk about moms owning businesses all the time… but really, how do you single girls do it!
