YFE is honored to have Denise Duffield-Thomas recap Ali Brown’s Shine Event and Marie Forleo’s Rich Happy & Hot Live for all of us. She is a young, female entrepreneur who is from Austrailia, but will be traveling around the states for the next few weeks and will be in attendance at both events! If you are present at either one, be sure to track her down and introduce yourself. In the meantime, get to know a little about Denise and her company.

What is your business all about?
I help exceptional women create outrageous success. To the outside it will look like you’ve become extraordinarily lucky – that’s why I called my book ‘Lucky Bitch’.
However, you’ll have done the work; identified and eliminated everything sabotaging you, designed exactly what your ideal life looks like and most importantly done the work to get there.
It’s a predictable process!
What does your background look like?
I’ve been a mentor, speaker and entrepreneur most of my life, but it’s been a rocky road to find a profitable way to get here!
I’ve had more than 50 jobs in my life including children’s entertainer, management consultant, event planner, sales trainer and social media manager.
I did Business Studies at University, both in Australia and London.
Why did you start your business, launch your first product, or build that community in the first place?
My motivation has always been for personal growth and finding my own path in life, even if it’s unconventional. I also love helping other women do the same.
I also wanted to create a business that works with my lifestyle. I can coach people over phone or Skype even while travelling.
I love living in Newcastle, Australia right now, but I know I can pick up and take my business somewhere else if needed.
What are your favorite things about being young, female and entrepreneurial?
I love how technology can support any idea we have and we can implement very quickly.
In particular, social media means that we can connect with other like-minded women all around the world, so if you are an anomaly amongst your friends you can build a global network.
If you have an idea, you can easily put up a cheap web page and a PayPal link, and you’re in business! You can self-publish very cheaply.
Basically, there are very little barriers to entry now for women to succeed in business. I find the only thing holding back my clients is their own fears and self-doubts.
Do you have mentors or people you admire that you think of when making business decisions?
I love inspiring entrepreneurs like Ali Brown and Marie Forleo – they are really blazing a trail for ambitious women to build businesses without sacrificing health or femininity.

What have been the advantages of being young and female while building your business?
There are no rules!
I love the fact that I can change my business with my mood and I love working with other female entrepreneurs – there is less competitive behaviour and more support.
We are so complex and our emotions and feelings really do impact our businesses – so it’s a fascinating journey.
What are the disadvantages you’ve faced, if any?
I’ve had a few people say “You’re too young to be a life coach” and my puzzled answer is always “What’s the right age?”
The only thing that usually holds me back is fear but I work on that every day.
When heart centred entrepreneurs are brave and overcome fear, it can change the whole world.
What is your advice for a young, female entrepreneur just starting out or in the research stage?
Don’t research forever.
At the beginning of your business, it can take a while to build traffic to your website or to find clients, so don’t be so precious about getting everything perfect.
It’s better to have SOMETHING up while you figure out what you really want, but it’s easier to refine something instead of always starting from scratch.
What is your drink of choice?
Green smoothies!
What can we find you doing when you are not working on and in your business?
I love living close to the beach for walking and swimming, but a big love is watching movies. I go to the cinema probably every week!
My hubby is also a hugely supportive force, so I love spending weekends hanging out with him. He’s my rock and supports all that I do!
