#YFEchat

The Twitter chat for young, female entrepreneurs, #YFEchat, is kicking off another season from April through June of bi-weekly Twitter chats. The season will start with a mixer on Friday, April 27th at 8p/11e. You can find out more about our Twitter Chats and how to participate in our Twitter Chat 101. Still not sure why you should even be on Twitter? YFE welcomes guest blogger, Ashley Baxter who will explain three key benefits…

Young entrepreneurs have a lot of tasks to juggle. When you are working on getting your business off the ground, taking time out of your day to be active on social media may seem like a bad idea. However, having a presence on Twitter might be the best tool to help you build your brand online.

In as little as 30 minutes a day, you can use Twitter to create a vast and active community around your brand that is easy to stay in contact with. If you want to get the maximum benefit out of your twitter marketing strategy, you should focus it on the following principals:

Customer Communication

Twitter is great for customer service and appreciation. Get a new client? Tweet to them and let them know you are excited to have their business. A little appreciation goes a long way. Sometimes, unhappy customers will use Twitter as a means to call out the businesses they feel have done them wrong. If you find yourself in this position, having a presence on Twitter will make it easier for you to nip the negative conversation in the bud before it gets out of hand. Seeing that you are active online might also give prospective customers the assurance they need to have confidence in doing business with you.

Showing Value

Before making a purchase, most of us do a little research to try and determine if our money will be well spent. Sharing snippets of information about your products or services with your audience on Twitter is a great way to show your value. In addition to that, Twitter can be a way to let others know that you are aware of the most recent trends in your industry. You can quickly become the go-to girl in your area if you take the time to tweet about hot topics that are relevant to your business.

Researching the Market

Twitter search is one of the best ways to keep your business on the pulse of what’s hot in your area. You can search for terms related to your industry and see what people are talking about in real-time. You can also keep an eye on competitors and learn what tools they may be leveraging to get an advantage in the space. If that isn’t enough, you can study the behavior of Twitter users to lean what elements make them more likely to share or naturally promote businesses or products. All of these things can be used as an advantage to help take your business to the next level.

Happy Birthday #YFEchat

March 22, 2012

yfe one year anniversary

Happy Birthday #YFEchat!

#YFEchat is 1 year old today! One year ago today YFE began hosting a bi-weekly Twitter chat for women in their 20s and 30s who are in business for themselves. You will find the format we started with then is still the one we use today: 10 questions, 1 hour, and a fun chat that brings like minded women together to talk about business, family, health, and fun.

Miss the camaraderie and collaboration that comes with being in an office with peers that do what you do, in a sorority working to fulfill a common goal, or even having a friend you can call up who understands what you are going through? At #YFEchat you can meet women to grow your network or to simply have someone that you can rely on for a good laugh.

About one month prior to #YFEchat I was also running tests on the idea of meeting in a private web conferencing room as my company was adding web conferencing onto our services. The resources were there so I brought it to the YFE community. This month we started moving those meetings into industry specific masterminds. In these private, online web conferences you can meet others who are building similar businesses across the country and learn from what works for them, discuss trends in the market, and offer resources that will help everyone build their businesses together.

This month I also started #YFEtv a live stream that happens every Thursday night at 6p/9e at http://on.fb.me/yfetv with a profiled entrepreneurial woman in her 20s or 30s with a live Facebook chat to compliment it. Tonight, the profiled YFE is Jenny Dibble who sold her first business and is now in her second business. Watch to learn from first hand experience the importance of an exit strategy and that life goes on (and even gets better) after your first business.

I hope you will be able to attend #YFEchat, a meeting, or our live stream if you are a young woman building a business. YFE’s mission is to help young women on our path to profitable businesses by connecting you with your others like yourself inorder to nurture peer to peer mentorship.

If you’ve attended one of our online events, been profiled, or enjoyed one of the YFE blog posts I would love if you would spread the word about YFE to your business network. That would be the best birthday present ever!

To share YFE, you can…

From one young female entrepreneur to another, thank you for being part of the YFE community by sharing your stories, resources, and tips on what it means to build a business as a woman in her 20s and 30s!

Best,
Jenn Donogh
YFE Director

#31 - Fire Martini

We are moving the champagne bottles, white elephant gifts, and bad sweater experience online via Twitter tonight at 6pm PST/9pm EST under the hashtag #YFEchat. Meet new people and celebrate the holidays with your YFE girlfriends. Stay in your pajamas, get work done on the side, or watch Love Actually while you tweet.

#YFEchat is a Twitter chat that occurs every two weeks where entrepreneurial women in their 20s/30s go to discuss topics related to owning a business as a young female. Follow YFE on Twitter @YFEntrepreneur.

Tonight’s chat will be 10 questions that are presented via the YFE Twitter account for participants to discuss. We’ll be focusing on what doing business for you looks like during the holidays. The goal of the chat is to allow participants to get to know one another, so there will be plenty of opportunity to tweet about why you are in business, what you do, and how you do it.

Get a Reminder:

Share the chat:

a day in the life

Young Female Entrepreneurs‘ Twitter Chat is today at 4pm PST/7pm EST. YFE is counting on you to spread the word about #YFEchat. The theme of the chat is ‘A Day in the Life.’ We all need a little boost every now and then on staying productive in our business when it comes to the day to day grind. Let’s work together in sharing our tips, resources, and what works for us all in living each day to our fullest.

Here are the questions we will be discussing at #YFEchat today at 4pm PST/7pm EST…

  1. Take a few tweets to introduce yourself to the group by answering why, what, who, & how about your business. #YFEchat
  2. When did you start your business and what was the motivation behind you opening up shop for yourself? #YFEchat
  3. Before we get into the details, let’s chat about what an average day looks like for you in general. You wake, open up shop, check emails…? #YFEchat
  4. Mornings can be hard when you work for yourself. How do you get motivated every morning to start your day off with a bang? #YFEchat
  5. How do you stay productive as you head into the afternoon hours? What tips do you have that ensure you make your way down the to-do list? #YFEchat
  6. What does your evening routine look like? Do you have a routine, or does it change based on events, launches, or projects? #YFEchat
  7. What hour do you generally unplug from the day? Steve Jobs was known for calling employees long into the night hours. Do live, breathe & sleep your company? #YFEchat
  8. How much of your day is focused on staying in good health: exercise, reading, sleep, nutrition? #YFEchat
  9. What is your opinion on ‘me time?’ Is it necessary, something you focus on, or wish you had? What does ‘me time’ entail? #YFEchat
  10. What have you learned from your mentors, parents, or more iconic women in business that has affected the way in which you structure your days? #YFEchat

Misty Copeland was recently featured on A Day in the Life. From middle school through college my hobby was dance, so I was thrilled to be able to sit there before bed and watch an inspiring story from a remarkable woman. The show, created by the same guy who brought us “Supersize Me,” walks us through the day in the life of an important figure. Imagine my excitement when in the clip above we find out that she was in the midst of building out a fashion line that meets the need for the more curvy dancer. This is on top of dancing with American Ballet Theatre and her outreach.

Let’s be honest here, we all have busy lives filled with priorities that are ever changing that is coupled with a drive to succeed in business. To fulfill our missions in a profitable manner. I know it’s possible to be young, female and entrepreneurial, but at times I catch myself getting frustrated by the day to day grind. So, the topic of our Twitter Chat this Thursday (at 4pm PST/7pm EST) is “Your Day.”

During the Twitter Chat, or #YFEchat, we are going to share what our average days look like, where we are frustrated, what is working well, and how we can work together to move our businesses forward by looking at it from a day to day view point.

#YFEchat is a Twitter chat that occurs every two weeks where entrepreneurial women in their 20s/30s go to discuss topics related to owning a business as a young female (find out more about what a Twitter chat is here). Follow YFE on Twitter @YFEntrepreneur

Risky Business #YFEchat

September 21, 2011

Tweet with Young Female Entrepreneurs this Thursday, September 22nd at 4pm PST/ 7pm EST at #YFEchat. Our topic this week is “Risky Business.” While we won’t be discussing Tom Cruise, his sunglasses, lack of pants, or poor choices in this chat, we will be tweeting about risk in business and in life in general.

Yesterday Inc. ran a story on Johanna Johnson, a fashion designer out of Australia who was able to have a dress on the red carpet at the Emmys, without being asked in the first place for the dress. It’s a pretty incredible story of faith and persistence that this designer dedicated 1 month, 20 employees, and a website redesign on the chance that it might be worn. Do you have stories like this one? Wish that you did? Let’s tweet about it…

Add the chat to your calendar //

Share the chat on Twitter //

YFE will tweet out 10 questions every five minutes to lead the discussion. The recommended manner to manage the tweets is by using tweetchat.com. However, you can also easily follow along on your phone using the hashtag #YFEchat. Here are the 10 questions in advance so you can think about what you would like to share:

  1. Let’s get to know each other! What is your business, who do you serve, and what problems are you solving? #YFEchat
  2. How long have you been in business and what has that time looked like for you? #YFEchat
  3. Why did you start your business? What gave you the motivation to hang up your sign and tell all? #YFEchat
  4. What did you think about in terms of risk in starting biz? Do you look at owning your own business as a risk? #YFEchat
  5. Do you participate in anything risky outside of business (skydiving, ;) @lifeofstaci)? #YFEchat
  6. Have you taken a chance recently on something that worked out in your favor? #YFEchat
  7. Have you taken a chance recently on something that turned out to be a complete mess? #YFEchat
  8. What is one thing you could do today in your business that would make or break you? #YFEchat
  9. Do your family and friends think that you are taking a major risk in owning a business today? #YFEchat
  10. In starting your business, what was one thing you would have done differently knowing what you know now? #YFEchat
